Quick guide: Business profit se taxable income tak: Sections 18, 20 aur 21 ke mutabiq expenses, disallowances aur capital asset adjustments ka example.

Sales, accounting profit aur taxable income

Business tax calculate karne se pehle income base sahi banana zaroori hai. Sales turnover, accounts ka net profit aur taxable business income teen alag figures ho sakte hain. Section 18 business income ka framework deta hai; section 20 deductions ka general principle aur section 21 specific disallowances rakhta hai. Is guide ka focus expense reconciliation hai; linked channel video business tax rates ka wider context deta hai.

Bank se paisay nikalne ka matlab deductible expense nahi. Isi tarah supplier payment ki invoice hona useful evidence hai, lekin business purpose, tax withholding aur payment-mode conditions bhi relevant ho sakti hain.

Section 20: business purpose establish karein

General rule expenditure ko business ke liye wholly and exclusively incurred hone se link karta hai, subject to the Ordinance. Office rent, employee cost aur operating expenses ki treatment actual business use aur restrictions par depend karegi. Mixed personal/business expenses ko supporting basis se allocate karein; section 67 apportionment bhi relevant ho sakta hai.

Expense register mein date, supplier, invoice, business purpose, payment trail aur tax-deduction status rakhein. Year-end par sirf total expenses ka number dene ke bajaye categories aur supporting schedules preserve karein.

Section 21: common add-backs

  • Personal spending ko business deduction na banayein.
  • Law violate karne ki fine ya penalty ko ordinary operating deduction na samjhein.
  • Business profit par imposed income tax generally business expense deduction nahi.
  • Required withholding/payment compliance miss hone par clause (c) aur uske provisos examine karein.
  • AOP ka member ko salary, remuneration, commission ya listed payments clause (j) ke under separately check karein.

Banking-channel restrictions aur companies ke digital-payment provision mein thresholds, exceptions aur commencement conditions hain. Small cash invoice ko har case mein automatically disallowed, ya big cash expense ko automatically allowed, kehna dono incorrect shortcuts hain. Applicable clause aur notified commencement ko payment date ke saath verify karein.

Capital expenditure ko ordinary expense se alag rakhein

Long-use equipment, qualifying intangible ya pre-commencement expenditure ke liye section 20(2) relevant depreciation/amortisation provisions ki taraf refer karta hai. Machine ka full purchase price ledger mein expense kar dena tax deduction establish nahi karta. Asset register, date put to use, cost aur applicable tax allowance working maintain karein.

Accounting depreciation aur tax depreciation ek jaisi hona zaroori nahi. Tax computation mein accounting charge add back aur allowable tax amount separately deduct karne ki working ho sakti hai. Har asset ko same rate dene ke bajaye correct class aur year rules dekhein.

Worked taxable-profit reconciliation

Assume accounting profit PKR 1,000,000 hai. Is profit ko arrive karte waqt personal expense PKR 100,000, legal violation penalty PKR 20,000 aur book depreciation PKR 80,000 deduct ki gayi. Assume verified tax depreciation PKR 60,000 hai aur koi other adjustment nahi. Taxable business income = 1,000,000 + 100,000 + 20,000 + 80,000 − 60,000 = PKR 1,140,000.

PKR 1,140,000 final tax payable nahi: relevant person category, tax year, tax regime, other income aur permitted credits ke baad tax calculation hoti hai. SME final tax, minimum tax aur corporate ACT ki separate applicability ko ignore na karein.

Records se sustainable tax position

Har year accounts-to-tax reconciliation save karein. Supplier balances, stock movement aur owner drawings ko expenses se distinguish karein. Agar invoice genuine hai magar deduction disallowed hoti hai, accounts entry aur tax add-back ko separate maintain karein; records delete karna solution nahi.
